Yes, Lara Croft indeed :) I can just imagine you with your twin holsters raiding tombs :)
I'm lucky, I've always had dreams of careers etc but Jess is clueless. At her age I wanted to be Indian Jones, in fact I wanted to call her Indiana but as her surname is Hones I was told no (cannot imagine why). I planned hotels to build, and adventures to have but her head is empty and it drives me crazy. So much so I'm taking her to Lanzarote in September with a one way ticket - she will have an adventure, she will. Youth is wasted on the young.

Possibly :-)

I don't know though. I think they could have made a very happy life together - a very different one though. I can see him as a father with a gaggle of child swimmers.

But then, I think I could have been happy with someone else too. Though definitely not the guy I was still yearning after when I met Ryan.

Archaeology though - I should have stuck with that. I'm sure I could have been Lara Croft, given the chance ;-)

Ryan walks TBR back to the hotel. He kisses her on the doorstep and she pulls him in. You part company and they move in together. But somethings not quite right.
He sees a dark haired woman and something tugs at his memory. He can't quite place it but he feels empty inside even though dinner is on the table and TBR washes and irons his socks.
He reads a book and a sentence reminds him of Ann, and a sharper twang of the heartstrings.
As he slurps his spaghetti he remembers to time Ann threw a pan of it on the wall to see if it was sticky and therefore cooked. He's stuck with a smile that he can't remove for days and TBR knows she can't make him smile like that.
A week later, he's back with Ann and TBR is firmly erased from his mind and it felt like the longest week of his life.

It seems at times that just talking and writing about an issue is demonized, as if that itself were the danger. We often don't know the full details behind these stories, and it may be different in a school that deals with particularly troubled teenagers.

I saw that story too. We do have some gun crime, of course. But even our police aren't routinely armed. From everything I've read it's not a simple problem to solve, as there are already so many of these weapons out there. All the same, it seems very alien to me - on Facebook I see some of my American friends talking about their Second Amendment rights and arguing that without them, only criminals would have weapons. They don't seem to see that defining someone as a criminal sometimes doesn't happen until too late - after the crime. And that's particularly the case in these kinds of tragedies.

Spooky poem, but I agree it could have been a teaching moment with the girl from Connecticut. The class discussion could have helped the kids talk through their feelings, but then again, the others in the class may have turned on her. Who's to say. A lot would depend on the teacher, but then again in other students went home and told their parents about it, the teacher may have been called before the school board and possibly dismissed. Who knows. Myself I tend to not demonize the kids who do these things as much as the gun mentality that allows anyone to have assault weapons. A paroled felon in NY who had bludgeoned his grandmother to death, just killed firemen with an assault gun that a neighbor girl bought for him - with his money - several years ago. At least in your country, it seems to be a little saner regarding guns.
